BRAND NAMING

BRAND ARCHITECTURE

Silverpond built a reputation as one of the sharpest technical minds in AI and machine learning, working in the field years before ChatGPT brought the category into everyday conversation. Their flagship product carried the name Silverbrane — read at a glance as a strange misspelling of "brain," and only making sense once someone explained it was actually meant to reference "membrane." A name that needs a footnote to be understood isn't doing its job.

The brief wasn't just to fix one name — it was to set a naming direction Silverpond could keep using as future products followed, so the whole range would feel considered rather than accidental.

Our recommendation was to steer well away from human names and acronyms that read like human names — both were adding to the confusion, not solving it. Instead, we looked for something friendly, approachable and easy to remember: a name people could grow genuinely fond of, both inside Silverpond and with their clients.

The result was HighLighter. It's a familiar word doing an unfamiliar job — traditionally used for emphasising printed text, repurposed here for a visual recognition technology that highlights specific things a business needs to see: among its earliest applications, reducing illegal poaching in African wildlife parks, and drone-assisted inspections of infrastructure like powerlines. The name borrows an everyday concept everyone already understands, and quietly redirects it toward what the software actually does.
